Genetic Genealogy

Genetic Genealogy is a fairly new field for both family history research, and criminal investigations with the first cold case solved in 2018. It is often defined as the use of DNA testing in combination with traditional genealogy research to deduce relationships between related people.

As of 2016, our Convergence IGG Team has fully embraced genetic genealogy as a tool first for adoptee and family history research and then for criminal investigations. Millions around the world provide their own DNA to several direct-to-consumer companies (such as AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, 23andme etc.) for information on their ethnicity and who they are related to in each database. This DNA file can then in turn be uploaded to other places, such as Gedmatch.com, which provide advanced tools and cousin-matching.

Genetic Genealogy has opened an unlimited amount of possibilities for family researchers and investigators alike. We have advanced knowledge of difficult concepts such as endogamy (interrelation of individuals in a population) and DNA segment analysis and how to tackle them. Proven experience building and tracking down family trees as well as locating historical records online has allowed us to become successful in countless adoptee cases and Law Enforcement investigations.

Law Enforcement

Law Enforcement in both the United States and Canada have fully embraced the investigative tool of genetic genealogy which utilizes crime scene DNA to find a potential suspect or to identify a John/Jane Doe in recent years.

We have proven experience in Law Enforcement Major Crimes working genetic genealogy cases including working one-on-one with Detectives in a division office and remotely. We work in collaboration with investigators to ensure a comprehensive and efficient process to create a timely solve. A background in disclosure and report writing is also one of our many necessary skills.

Experience with strategies to solve difficult cases with low DNA matches, lack of historical records, and severe amounts of endogamy is rare! We have had conclusive success in these situations!

Canadian Genealogy Research

We provide professional genealogy research for individuals seeking to trace, document, and understand their Canadian ancestry. Whether you are looking to identify a Canadian ancestor, confirm a family connection, or gather historical documentation on a specific ancestral line, we conduct detailed research using both traditional and modern genealogical methods.

Our work may include building family trees and locating records such as birth, marriage, and death registrations, census records, church records, obituaries, land and probate records, newspaper notices, immigration records, and other relevant historical material. Each research project is approached carefully and methodically, with an emphasis on accuracy, evidence, and clear documentation.

We have experience handling challenging research problems, including incomplete paper trails, spelling variations, migration between provinces or countries, and complex family structures. We will also provide guidance on how to order certified true copies of your ancestor’s birth, marriage and death records.

We aim to provide clients with clear, well-organized research results that help uncover the stories of their Canadian ancestors.
